IAAF Once Again Looking for New Host for 2019 World Relays

By Adam Kopet

Akino Ming of the Jamaica Gleaner reports Jamaica will not play host to the 2019 IAAF World Relays.

As was previously reported, The Bahamas, which had played host to the first three editions of the event, was withdrawing from hosting duties in the future due to the financial cost of hosting the event. Jamaica was seen as the likely successor.

However, it appears the problems The Bahamas faced in hosting the meet will also serve as the undoing for Jamaica's ability to host. The Jamaican government has decided not to provide the event the financial backing necessary to host the event.

Now, the IAAF will need to find a new host. Previously, the IAAF had expressed interest in keeping the World Relays event in the Caribbean, but with event now less than a year away, the IAAF may be willing to consider hosts in other parts of the world.
